Selena Gomez is easily one of the most popular teen stars to arrive on the entertainment scene. Gifted in singing and acting, the 18-year-old is also a solid influence on kids along with being an active philanthropist and advocate for those who are disadvantaged.
Born in New York, Gomez was raised in Texas where the star lived until she was 13-years-old. The future Disney actress debuted on the PBS show Barney and Friends until she was recruited by Disney at the age of 12. Gomez guest-starred on the show The Suite Life of Zach and Cody for one episode and she made her feature-length film debut as a "the girl in the water park", Robert Rodriguez film Spy Kids 3D: Game Over. From there, young Gomez guest-starred in three episodes of Miley Cyrus' Disney popular Disney show, Hannah Montana, where she played Hannah's rival Mikayla.
Gomez's signing career took off around the time of her debut on her own series, Disney Wizards of Waverly Place. She recorded three songs on the Disney label including her cover of Cruella De Vil. The song was made specifically for the release of 101 Dalmatians on DVD.
Because her career was taking off, Gomez was called "the next Miley Cyrus," a comparison Gomez was flattered by. Cyrus took to YouTube to openly mock Gomez and other Disney starlet Demi Lovato and their run of self-tapped fun. Everyone involved denies any ill-will.
She then starred in Another Cinderella Story in 2008. It was a direct-to-DVD release and was the sequel to the 2004 Hilary Duff feature. The movie was a surprise hit for the Mouse House. Following up on this success, Gomez did light voice work for Horton Hears a Who! two other films for Disney: Princess Protection Program (alongside her friend Demi Lovato) and the movie version of Wizards of Waverly Place.
But Disney isn't the only place to find Selena Gomez movies. Gomez will be starring in her first movie vehicle with Ramona and Beezus, which is based on the popular Ramona series from children's writer Beverly Cleary. Gomez will play Beezus, the older sister to Ramona. Romana is a 3rd grader with a lofty creativity and imagination. The features focuses on the family's house being taken away and Ramona, with the help of her sister, try to save it.
Her next project is the romantic comedy Monte Carlo from director acclaimed Tom Bezucha. It Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy and is based on the novel Headhunters by writer Jules Bass.
In the film the three women travels to Europe on vacation and it centers on two best friends who save up for a girl trip to Paris. The girls are joined by Grace's new step-sister. While in Paris, one of the trio is believed to to be British heiress and the three girls find themselves in the embroiled in media circus. Monte Carlo is easily one the biggest Selena Gomez movies to arrive in theaters.
While at the time of this article, Gomez is not attached to any future projects, it's clear that the popular singer and actress will be a powerful entertainer for years to come ad I'm sure there will be plenty more Selena Gomez movies.
